Heritage Stone Application Form
(click here to see pictures of individual Heritage Stones in the Air Park) As part of a fundraising effort to assist the Comox Air Force Museum, the Comox Valley Air Force Museum Association (Friends of the Museum) has created a project to place Heritage Stones in the Museum's Heritage Air Park.
(click here to see pictures of individual Heritage Stones in the Air Park) This display of Heritage stones is intended to remind us of the people who made our Military what it is today. It will evoke memories of those of us who cared, as well as those who cared for them. It will celebrate the people that served their country, both in and out of uniform, in good times and bad. Whilst our Air Park commemorates our flying machines, we also want it to celebrate the people who made them work. Therefore, in recognition of a one-time donation of $155.00 to the Comox Valley Air Force Museum Association, a unique and memorable Heritage Stone will be place in the Air Park that honors the memory of an individual, either living or past, on the Donor's behalf. The stones will remain the property of the Museum, and will be displayed in an appropriate and dignified manner around the Air Park. The donor will also be eligible for a tax receipt for the $155.00 donation. The stones are made from Vancouver Island Marble, mined near Cowichan Lake and finished by marble masters in Duncan. They will bear a colored Roundel and lighting flash similar to those seen on RCAF & CF aircraft in the past. They will also be engraved with the lettering of the customer's choice, within prescribed guidelines. See the examples below. We wish to be as open as possible to individual requests for lettering, so that these are personal remembrances, not just a litany of names and dates. Stones will be formally installed at an annual celebration, with a Chaplain participating. Stones may be dedicated to any of the following: 1. Individuals who served with the RCAF, RCN, RCA, RNAS, RFC or RAF; 2. Current or former members of the Canadian Forces (Regular & Reserve); 3. Any Canadian citizen who has served at RCAF Station/CFB/19 Wing Comox; 4. Any Canadian citizen who has served with Allied Forces; 5. The spouse of any individual covered under 1,2 or 3 above; 6. Foreign Military who have been assigned duty on Canadian soil; 7. Military members of Commonwealth Countries that participated in BCATP; 8. Regular members of The Air Force Association Of Canada, and the Royal Canadian Legion; 9. Members of Registered Veteran’s Associations; and 10. Other persons, as deemed appropriate by the Executive Board of the CVAFMA. The Heritage Stones (click here to see pictures of individual Heritage Stones in the Air Park) The stones will have a uniformity of shape and colour, but will also be individual pieces of heritage information. Please keep in mind that we do not wish to create a formal memorial or churchyard atmosphere, but rather an air of celebration of those people involved in our great history. All stones will contain the Roundel & Lighting Flash with the words "Our Heritage... Our People". It will then have up to three lines of text, as follows. Line One: (Max 20 Spaces). The individual's name or "handle". This line can include a military rank and decorations, if desired. Line Two: (Max 25 Spaces). This line contains amplifying information for Line One. It may include the following: a. Place and/or Date of Birth; b. Organization; e.g. RCAF, CF, RCN, 12 Fuselliers; etc c. Service number; d. Squadron Affiliations; e. Significant Operations e.g. Dieppe; Vimy; Battle of Britain; Gulf War; etc f. Decorations; g. Any personal information (within reason!) Line Three: (Max 20 Spaces) This line can add additional information to the above. It can contain any of line two articles that are not already mentioned, it can contain the squadron/base motto, contain a personalized note or it can be left blank Some Examples are: (click here to see pictures of individual Heritage Stones in the Air Park)
