MUSEUM: The Comox Air Force Museum displays the heritage of 19 Wing Comox and West Coast Canadian Military Aviation. Located at the historic and operational 19 Wing Comox, our Museum records the history and heritage of all of Canada’s Air Forces, from the short-lived Royal Flying Corps of Canada (1917-1918) and Canadian Air Force (1918-1924) through the glory years of the Royal Canadian Air Force (1924-1968), unification of the forces in 1968 and on into the present day. All of this is seen as through a local lens, as our Museum chronicles the history of West Coast military aviation, the history of Comox in particular. LIBRARY: Our Museum is proud to host one of the finest aviation libraries in Canada. This large collection spans the breadth of aviation; from personal accounts and biographies to technical manuals in the books section, and from Canadian Forces issue service magazines to historical newsletters to specialist aircraft magazines in our periodicals section. At present, the library includes: - over 7000 books - fifteen thousand periodicals - twenty thousand photos MUSEUM STORE: Our store, full of Comox-focused aviation items, is located inside the entrance to our Museum. A variety of items are available for those looking for souvenirs, or those looking to continue or complete a collection. HERITAGE AIR PARK: Our Air Park located 500 meters down the road from the museum hosts a fine collection of vintage aircraft. This collection features a selection of aircraft of significance in the history of Comox and West Coast aviation. Also nearby is the museum’s largest restoration project, the rebuilding of the Y2K Mark IX Spitfire. The Spitfire is in the midst of being assembled, and is open for the public to view on Saturdays from 10 am to 3 pm. A Comox Air Force Museum Executive Committee, appointed by the 19 Wing Commander, works with 19 Wing for support to the Museum. Vision To be recognized as the leading museum preserving the History of the Canadian Air Force on the West Coast. Mission To collect, preserve, exhibit and interpret the history of military aviation on Canada's Pacific Coast, with particular reference to 19 Wing Comox and its squadrons and units, for the information and education of members of the Canadian Armed Forces, DND civilian employees and the public; To be a repository for aircraft, vehicles, papers, periodicals, books, photographs, artwork, memorabilia and other artifacts related to aviation history, particularly the Royal Canadian Air Force and the air component of the Canadian Armed Forces, in peace and in war, and to be a centre of research and expertise for the assistance of scholars, members of the military, DND civilian employees and the public; To participate in community activities and in school events to promote wider understanding of the military aspects of Canadian history; and To work with similar organizations having like objectives. Goals * To preserve, through research, acquisition and care of artifacts, a collection of provincial and national significance. * To present, through exhibits, multi-media and interactive opportunities, the content and themes of the collection. * To build the reputation of the Comox Air Force Museum.
